Jorge is from Mexico and first joined YWAM in 1987 through the ministry of Mercy Ships when the M/V Anastasis was docked in his home port city of Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan.  Karen, from Burlington, NC in the USA, joined the M/V Anastasis for her DTS in the spring of 1990 and there the two met and soon after were married on February 23, 1991.  Over the years the couple served with Mercy Ships on board the M/V Good Samaritan and the M/V Caribbean Mercy, with YWAM in Bogota, Colombia and with YWAM San Diego/Baja in Ensenada, Mexico.  On February 17, 1997, Jorge and Karen first arrived to Cartagena to begin the ministry of Proyecto Libertad.  Over the last 20+ years the Silva’s have invested their lives in pioneering this ministry with the desire to share God’s love, care and concern for the poor and needy in practical ways.
